Education
The Sallie Harrison Chapter supports the DAR mission of education through a variety of different programs, contests and awards held during the school year. Students from across the area are invited to get involved and participate in a variety of programs, events and opportunities.
Supporting DAR Schools
Over $1 million is given annually by the NSDAR to support six schools founded to provide educational opportunities that would otherwise be unavailable to the populations they serve. The
DAR Schools provide a variety of special needs programs that address problems such as Attention Deficit Disorder, dyslexia, adult literacy, and children in family crisis.
2021 Annual Youth Awards Ceremony presented the DAR Good Citizens Award to Seminole County High School Seniors at the Museum of Seminole County History in February.

Opportunities for Students in Seminole County
Each year, NSDAR awards more than $150,000 in scholarships and financial aid to high school and college students. We also sponsor awards and programs throughout the country to promote education of American History.
Scholarships
The Sallie Harrison Chapter encourages students in Seminole County to participate and apply for state and national scholarships. The NSDAR awards multiple scholarships to students showing dedication to the pursuit of degrees in diverse disciplines including history, law, nursing, and education. Each year, Sallie Harrison recognizes students from Seminole County high schools who possess the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in their homes, schools, and communities. These students are selected by their teachers and peers because they demonstrate these qualities to an outstanding degree. For more information about this contest, please contact us. DAR American History Essay Contest
Nationwide, more than 4,000 schools participate in this annual contest for students in grades 5-8, with nearly 66,000 essays submitted yearly. This contest was established to encourage students in Grades 5-8 to think creatively about our nation's great history and learn about history in a new light.
